DESCRIPTION:Father Jude Brady\, O.S.B.\, will speak to the Oblates of Saint Benedict of Saint Vincent Archabbey at 3 p.m. Sunday\, May 18 in Brownfield Room 202\, a Seminary classroom. His topic will be The Role of Suffering\, Declining of Health\, and the Aging Process in the Life of a Monk and an Oblate. He is a popular retreat master\, and has given retreats in the dioceses of Erie\, Greensburg and Pittsburgh\, among many others. To appreciate the presentation one does not need to have attended previous sessions. \nHe earned a master of arts degree in clinical psychology in 1971 and an education certification from Long Island University in 1972. He received a master of divinity degree in 1979 from Saint Vincent Seminary\, a diploma (master of arts) in spiritual counseling and direction in 1981 from the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas\, Rome\, and a doctorate in pastoral counseling/pastoral theology from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary in 1984. \nFather entered the Saint Vincent monastic community on July 1\, 1974\, made his simple profession of vows on July 10\, 1975\, and his solemn profession of vows on July 11\, 1978.  He was ordained a priest on May 24\, 1980. He has worked as a teacher\, counselor\, psychometerist\, vocation director for the Archabbey\, director of pastoral formation at Saint Vincent Seminary\, and has served in a variety of parishes in the dioceses of Greensburg\, Erie and Altoona-Johnstown. He has served as headmaster of Benedictine Military School in Savannah\, and prior of the priory there\, and in many other roles. \nOblates and guests may attend vespers at 5 p.m. in the Basilica and stay for supper in the guest dining room. He earned the Master of Arts in Catholic Philosophical Studies\, magna cum laude\, from Saint Vincent Seminary in 2023. In early 2024 he transferred his vows to Saint Vincent Archabbey. Father Romuald earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from The Citadel\, the Military College of South Carolina\, in 2002\, and a Master of Arts degree in systematic theology from Saint Vincent Seminary in 2021\, summa cum laude. In 2024\, Father Romuald earned the Master of Divinity degree\, summa cum laude\, and the Bachelor of Sacred Theology degree\, summa cum laude\, in affiliation with the Pontifical University of Sant’ Anselmo in Rome. \nAfter spending a year in the novitiate at Saint Vincent Archabbey\, he professed simple vows on July 9\, 2010. He renewed his vows as a junior monk in 2011 and 2012\, and again in 2022. Brother Romuald made solemn vows on July 11\, 2023 and was ordained a deacon by Bishop Larry J. Kulick of the Diocese of Greensburg on August 12\, 2023. He was ordained to the priesthood on May 26\, 2024 by Bishop Kulick. His assignments at the Archabbey have included assistant archivist (2010-2011)\, assistant to the director of facilities management (2010-2013)\, consultant on the monastery roof project and the mausoleum project (2011-2013) and assistant to the director\, Institute for Ministry Formation (2021-present). \nTo appreciate the presentation one does not need to have attended previous sessions. \nAdditionally\, Oblates and guests may attend vespers at 5 p.m. in the Basilica and stay for supper in the guest dining room. DESCRIPTION:Join Archabbot Martin de Porres Bartel\, O.S.B.\, at 3 p.m. Sunday\, January 19\, for his talk\, “Ask the Abbot.” Archabbot Martin will field questions from Oblates regarding aspects of Benedictine spirituality\, the Archabbey\, being a monk\, or related topics. The talks take place in Saint Vincent Seminary classroom Brownfield 202. Oblates and others interested are invited to attend. \nArchabbot Martin  was elected archabbot of Saint Vincent Archabbey on June 23\, 2020. As such\, he is leader of the first Benedictine monastery established in the United States\, the chancellor of Saint Vincent College and Saint Vincent Seminary. Saint Vincent Benedictines operate the Benedictine Military School in Savannah\, Georgia\, and the Penn State Campus Ministry Program at State College in Pennsylvania. In addition to his responsibilities in this country\, the Archabbot is also the leader of monasteries in Brazil and Taiwan. \nPrior to his election as archabbot\, Archabbot Martin had been serving as the administrator of the MACH1 (Monaca\, Aliquippa\, Center and Hopewell) Parish Grouping in the Diocese of Pittsburgh\, now Mary Queen of Saints Parish. Prior to his assignments in the Diocese of Pittsburgh\, Archabbot Martin served in the Diocese of Greensburg as pastor of Saint Bruno Parish\, South Greensburg and administrator of Saint Benedict Parish\, Marguerite (2008-2013) and as pastor of Saint Martin Parish\, New Derry (2001-2009). At Saint Bernard\, he made simple profession of vows on August 15\, 2017\, and solemn profession on August 6\, 2020. In 2023\, he transferred his vows to Saint Vincent Archabbey. He was ordained a deacon by Bishop Larry J. Kulick of the Diocese of Greensburg at Saint Vincent Archabbey Basilica on May 26\, 2024. \nBefore entering religious life\, Brother Romanus served in the U.S. Army from January 1995 to August of 1997\, worked as a board-certified drug and alcohol addiction counselor from 2010 to 2014 and was an automotive production supervisor from 2014 to 2016. \nOblates and guests may attend vespers at 5 p.m. in the Basilica and stay for supper in the guest dining room.
